Week 1 - Introduction to Public Administration Theory

Activity 1: Organizational Introductions
Talk with your partner about a current or past work experience and make sure to respond to the following prompts:
  1. An organization I’ve worked for or am currently working for: _______________ and its primary purpose/mission: _______________________________________.
  2. What I’m responsible for doing in that organization (in a quick couple of sentences).
  3. If/how covid has changed primary work activities.
Activity 2:
In your group, take 10 minutes to identify two or three working norms (conceptual, procedural, and behavioral) you believe will help you work well in groups this semester. Document these norms in the Google doc available via the following link:
Activity 3:
With your group, select one or two big PA Tensions and explore what lessons or advice you believe this week’s authors/readings offer us in terms of navigating this tension. Visit the Google doc at the following link to review tensions and take notes. Be prepared to summarize key themes from your discussion in under 3 minutes.
